Summer usually comes with a reading list. With time off, there is finally time to get some reading done. And it’s a good way to support your local book store! We would like to share some of our favorite books for this summer.

The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse – by Charlie Mackesy

This gorgeous picture book can be described as a collection of musings and conversations exploring universal thoughts and feelings that unite us all. The drawings and quotes (or little stories) are full of hope and transport you back to that old familiar storybook feeling. It does not matter if you’re a kid or an adult, this is a book of hope for uncertain times.

Wanderlust: Hiking on Legendary Trails – by Cam Honan, Robert Klanten, Anja Kouznetsova

We all have a case of Wanderlust at the moment and this book might be the perfect remedy. It offers spectacular photography of inspiring journeys on hiking paths all over the world. Dream away at the photography, but don’t expect too many practical tips; this book tells you more about the overall experiences on each trail.

The Great Outdoors: 120 recipes for Adventure Cooking – by Die Gestalten Verlag

The Great Outdoors offers a collection of recipes suited for outdoor cooking. Whether you use this book on a camping trip or just with your Outdooroven in your own backyard, it is filled with helpful tips and delicious recipes to try.

Humankind: a hopeful history – by Rutger Bregman

For several centuries, from philosophy to psychology, there’s been the belief that humans are bad. We are selfish and led by self-interest. Through countless arguments and new insights, this book argues otherwise: believing in human generosity and collaboration is not optimistic, it’s realistic! A great book if you need an interesting pick-me-up.

Expeditie achtertuin: Exploring the Netherlands – by Bas van Oort, Dirk Wijnand de Jong

We’re all focusing on our own areas at the moment. After years of traveling far, the current situation has made us stay closer to home. And there is lots to appreciate! This book is filled with pictures and stories of beautiful locations in the Netherlands, our home country. Learn more about all the great spots the Netherlands has to offer or find a similar book covering your own region!

Let my people go surfing – by Yvon Chouinard

This book gives us an insight in the experiences of the founder of outdoor brand Patagonia, Yvon Chouinard. Yvon is not your typical businessman: doing good and having grand adventures are important to him and he brought both of these things into the heart of his business life. A book that greatly inspires us at Weltevree.

BONUS: As long as the sausages are thumb-thick – the Weltevree cookbook

Of course, we can’t give you a book list without mentioning our own book: the Weltevree cookbook! This recipe book contains dishes made especially for the Outdooroven by Chef Jeroen van Werven. Using fresh seasonal ingredients, you can prepare food with the Outdooroven all year round.
