Australian-born designer Tom Fereday grew up in England where he studied at the Wimbledon School of Art, before completing an honours degree in Industrial Design at the University of Technology Sydney. He went on to found his sole practice in 2012, specializing in product and furniture design. Important to his design vision is the principle of honest design, which celebrates the materials and manufacturing processes behind furniture and products.
“We strive to create enduring designs which are meaningful to people and their environment”
The Spade Set by Tom is a bistro set born out of the celebration of a design detail that is usually hidden, but should be highlighted according to Fereday: the spade junction. The legs are connected in a similar way to a spade’s socket connection and the unique table top is formed out of a single piece of metal, pushing the boundaries of metal forming. Since the metal is zinc plated and powder coated, this bistro set is perfect for either indoors or outdoors.
