Local Habitat

THE LOCAL HABITAT

There are plenty of species and creatures living in our surroundings that we could get to know better. This is why Floris Schoonderbeek came up with The Local Habitat, a glass research dome in which you create your own temporary ecosystem. The glass shape has a slight magnifying effect and allows for great observation, especially when filled with water. Floris: “Bring creatures to your Local Habitat, give them a temporary home, observe and learn, and set them free after getting to know them better. Because the more you know, the more you care.”

Magnifying bubbles

The three bubbles on the side of the glass research dome have a light magnifying effect. This allows for even better observation of your catch.

Doubles as a vase

A product with multiple functions always works well. If you’re finished with finding and observing creatures, the Local Habitat doubles as a unique vase!

Made from mouth-blown soda-lime glass

The Local Habitat is made from mouth-blown soda-lime glass. Since it is made of glass, and because of its shape, it is fragile. Try not to pick it up by the magnifying bubbles.

MAGNIFYING EFFECT

The three bubbles on the side of the glass allow for better observation. The shape magnifies your view and allows you to observe creatures from all different angles. This effect works best with the observation of water animals, when the Local Habitat is filled with water.

RESPONSIBLE OBSERVATION

The Local Habitat is provided with a booklet that gives you all information on the different creatures you can find and how to responsibly observe them. It’s important to always take the needs of your catch into account. Never leave the Local Habitat in direct sunlight, and make sure to provide food, water and enough oxygen. And most importantly: always release your catch back into nature.

OBSERVE CREATURES NEARBY

A big goal of the Local Habitat is to teach you more about the creatures living around you. Together with your Local Habitat you will receive a booklet containing information about the creatures and species living in your surroundings. This way you can really learn all about your temporary ecosystem. Do always make sure to take the needs of your catch into account.

USE IT AS A VASE

The Local Habitat is great to observe creatures in. But when you are finished with observing the life around you, it doubles as a vase! Fill it with freshly cut flowers or plant some succulents inside.
